"It's the quiet ones that need watching."

Reclusive and anti-social, 16-year-old Clarice Harris is usually dismissed by her peers as a geek with an attitude problem. The rare few who get to know her better find her intelligent, curious and above all terribly alone, plagued by a short temper and a bitterly long memory.

Recently expelled from a girl's boarding school in Richmond, VA, for "disruptive behaviour", Clarice has been sent to her adopted father in Germany in the vain hope that he might be able to straighten her out.

"Packing a pistol, talking about "deals" and "big scores"... You act more like a Gangster than I do."

At 25 years old, Lawrence Fisher already has nearly a decade of lucrative criminal behavior under his belt. Growing up as an army brat in California, he first came to Germany during high school and hasn't left since. He currently works as a file clerk at the US headquarters in Heidelberg, but actually makes his money as a small-time smuggler.

He met Susan and Kevin at a party, and he and Susan really hit it off. They've been working together for two years.

    "C'mere, you!"

Currently finishing up her University studies, Susan Friesen is a bright, cheerful, 22 year-old woman who sees life as a giant, immensly amusing game. With little respect for authority, she's been drifting into increasingly serious misbehavior since high-school.

Lawrence's bad-boy image appeals to her adventurous side, and the two have been a hot item since practically their first meeting. Of the three, she's the most supportive of Clarice; she likes the girl's spunk and determination, and sees her dour attitude as a challenge to her considerable powers of chaotic mirth.

"Hey Lawrence, check it out. The kitten's got herself some claws."

20 years old, and feeling his oats, Kevin Friesen only transfered to Germany a year ago, though he'd visited Susan and their father there a few times before. Abrassive and impetuous, he's fiercely loyal to his older sister, and doesn't give much of a damn about anything else. Fond of the local brew, and always on the lookout for a hot bod or a good brawl.

Lawrence and Susan cut him in on their business as muscle; carrying the gun and look as scary as possible. He gets along well enough with Lawrence, but disliked Clarice from the start and enjoys antagonizing her every chance he gets.
